Listening Blog 10

For this weeks blog post I decided to write about the song “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen. Released on June 4th 1984 this song was very popular and was probably something that our parents are grandparents listened to throughout their younger ages. Although there are a lot of songs from this era that I have heard, this song is one that has stuck out to me. There is something about the patriotism and prideful ness of the singers voice. While listening to this song, the first thing that really stuck out to me is how he is screaming the words to the song. Most songs we hear now are kind of a relaxed voice but this one is full on screaming of the lyrics kind of like you would at a concert. The next thing that I noticed was definitely the music he is singing to. If you listen closely you can tell that it is playing the same thing just over and over again with very small changes if any to each one. The only major changes I heard was the volume depending on the part of the song you were on. Also very rarely they would drag out each note within that music chorus to make it more dramatic. Thank you for reading.

  1. I absolutely can be a rockhead sometimes, and I love how this song starts and is throughout the whole thing. I use to sing this song at the top of my lungs because it was so much fun to sing! He does sound like he had a lot of pride and power when singing the song. I never noticed how minimal the usage of music in the background there was. It makes it so much more raw though and I love that!

  2. I listened to this song thinking about Miley Cyrus's Party in the USA and Demi Lovato's Made in the USA which have completely different vibes. I think the song is good, but he's super repetitive with the lyrics, and like you said, the music pretty much stays the same throughout which also gets old.

  3. This song definitely shows the patriotic era that our parents and grandparents grew up in. The volume of his voice, as you mentioned, definitely showcases pride and its cool they actually released it on July 4th. I feel like this is one of the first super patriotic song that is not so much on the country side of music. Thank you for reading.

  4. I agree with what you said about the singer giving the song more emotion. It makes it feel like you're at a concert but I think that's the beauty behind this song. It carries those emotions of patriotism and pride of being an American. When I go to a concert and the artist sings the song with such strong emotion it really makes the song more meaningful to the listener. This song does a great job of getting such strong emotions across.
