Listening Blog 10

For this weeks blog post I decided to write about the song “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen. Released on June 4th 1984 this song was very popular and was probably something that our parents are grandparents listened to throughout their younger ages. Although there are a lot of songs from this era that I have heard, this song is one that has stuck out to me. There is something about the patriotism and prideful ness of the singers voice. While listening to this song, the first thing that really stuck out to me is how he is screaming the words to the song. Most songs we hear now are kind of a relaxed voice but this one is full on screaming of the lyrics kind of like you would at a concert. The next thing that I noticed was definitely the music he is singing to. If you listen closely you can tell that it is playing the same thing just over and over again with very small changes if any to each one. The only major changes I heard was the volume depending on the part of the song yo...

Listening Blog 8

I think I got a week ahead last week and did the week 8 blog instead of week 7. So let me know if we are on listening blog 8 or 9 this week. Thanks But for this week I decided to write about the song Sweet Home Alabama. I feel like we hear this song in a lot of tik toks or instagram reels and it is mainly known in our day and age for incest. I chose to write on the song “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It is amazing to see how a song can be popular when it first comes out in 1974 and continue to be popular all the way until basically 2022. I believe that any song able to accomplish that deserves some recognition. I like how this song has a very distinct and recognizable guitar pattern. It has a good rhythm to it to help make it more of a memorizable song. My favorite part of the song is definitely the chorus. Like any song, it is always fun to just belt out the lyrics and know it word for word and sing along. This song has such an easy chorus it made it easy for so many unt...

Hello to anyone reading this… For this weeks listening blog I chose to write on the song that is well known today. Like any song, it is always fun to just belt out the lyrics and know it word for word and sing along. This song has such an easy chorus it made it easy for so many untalented people like myself to learn the lyrics so you could enjoy it as well. Thank you for reading my bl...

Good Afternoon Music 1020 classmates. For this weeks Listening Blog I decided to write about the first song I saw on this list of choices. I am writing about the song “Papas got a brand new bag” by James Brown. The first thing that I noticed when I started playing this song was the jazz music sound. I like how you can hear each individual instrument throughout the song. He followed the basic concepts of music and  kept everything really simple. I related this song to a personal experience in my life, I spent 6 years in band class playing this at football games and I thought that it was really annoying because it was so easy. So it is nice to hear the origins of the song. I really like being able to see how music has progressed up until this point in time. I feel like this is setting everything up for the next few decades of music to come. I can hear a lot of the same concepts in this music as we hear in todays music and its really cool to me. Thank you!!

Good Afternoon, for this week I decided to listen to and write about the song from chapter 8 “sh-boom” by the Chords. I chose this song because it gave me so many memories from the days when I would spend countless hours watching the cars movies. This quartet published the song in 1980 and it was a hit. I am sure you have heard a few of their other songs as well. A common misconception that people have with this song is the fact that they can’t get the cars movie out of their heads to listen to the words. After listening to this great song for the third time, I started to realize that this song was a love song. I mainly got confused because of the absolute nonsense sounds that they sing. Instead of focusing on the words I focused on that a lot of the time. I couldn’t help but chuckle when I heard them. One example of this is towards the start of the song when they are singing do do do do sh-boom. There are a few others in there as well that I don’t know that there is even a way to...

For this weeks blog post I chose to write about Hound Dog by Elvis Presley. Elvis was a world renowned singer. I believe that everyone knows of Elvis. Everyone from the older generation to the new generation. I feel like everyone teaches their kids about the “legend” Elvis. In this song you can tell how much passion he puts into all of his songs. The reason this song stuck out to me is because it is an iconic dance song. When this song came out, it instantly became a hit. Not only is it a good song, but I believe that it shaped dance music into what it is today. The main reason for this is because of how up beat this is. If you think of a dance that isn’t a slow dance, a lot of the music is upbeat and follows the same pattern as this song. And finally, I enjoy how catchy the lyrics are. If you can create a song that everyone can easily remember the words and sing along with it, then your song is going to do a ton better when it comes to the billboards. Everyone knows of at least o...

For this weeks listening blog I chose to listen to “Deed I Do” by Ruth Etting. I chose this song for no particular reason other then that it was the first song on the list. This song sounds like any classical love song. It was written and released in 1926 and it was produced by Fred Rose. If you were to take the words out of this song, you would almost be able to guess what words she is singing just from the music. It is like any song you here today that if you hear one clip of the sound, you instantly know it word for word. I feel like this song was very popular during its time just because it was an easy song to memorize and it was kind of catchy. I like how she uses the tempo to change emotion from happy to sad. One other way she changes emotions is through the volume of her voice. When she gets quite you can tell it is a sad part and when she sings a little louder you can tell that she wanted you to feel happy. This makes sense because she is singing about her true love and wh...
