Listening Blog 3

For this weeks listening blog I chose to listen to “Deed I Do” by Ruth Etting. I chose this song for no particular reason other then that it was the first song on the list. This song sounds like any classical love song. It was written and released in 1926 and it was produced by Fred Rose. If you were to take the words out of this song, you would almost be able to guess what words she is singing just from the music. It is like any song you here today that if you hear one clip of the sound, you instantly know it word for word. I feel like this song was very popular during its time just because it was an easy song to memorize and it was kind of catchy. I like how she uses the tempo to change emotion from happy to sad. One other way she changes emotions is through the volume of her voice. When she gets quite you can tell it is a sad part and when she sings a little louder you can tell that she wanted you to feel happy. This makes sense because she is singing about her true love and what not. Like every love song, you have to have happy and sad moments in order to connect to the audience.

  1. I like how you were able to make connections to present day love songs with this song. I really thought it was interesting that you pointed out the volume of her voice and how it conveys the emotions she is singing about. I had not heard that in this song until you pointed it out.

  2. It's really awesome that you are making connections to the music that you hear now! I think that it's also cool that you included who produced it because that is a really important part of a song. You also brought up an awesome point that emotions can change in a song even just from the volume of a voice. Thank you for sharing your opinion!
